SAINT-DENIS, France, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- The Piton de la Fournaise, or Peak of the Furnace, volcano on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean erupted on Sunday -- the second time this year. The volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. It has erupted more than 150 times since the 17th century. The latest eruption occurred in an uninhabited area of the island, which belongs to France, and does not yet threaten the local population. Hikers passing by the volcano took time to watch the eruption. Reunion Island has a population of nearly 900,000 people. It is located east of Madagascar. ...
