The U.S. Marine's "Venom" Helicopter Packs Quite a Punch
Popular Mechanics 23 hours ago
The UH-1A "Iroquois" helicopter was the aerial workhorse of the Vietnam War. Originally designed to carry troops into combat, the helicopter, nicknamed "Huey", became a battlefield jack-of-all-trades. One role the Huey became outfitted for was as a gunship—sporting rockets and machine guns—for providing close air support for ground troops. This video shows off the latest Huey's descendant, the UH-1Y "Venom" helicopter. Used by the U.S. Marine Corps, Venom is a light utility helicopter that can carry up to eight passengers or six stretchers for carrying wounded Marines to the rear. As the video shows, it's also a formidable gunship. Venom has two door gunner mounts, one on each side, for GAU-16/A ...
'This is obviously a huge deal': US Navy ship fires 3 missiles in defense after being targeted near Yemen
Alex Lockie,Business Insider 22 hours ago
After being targeted by two missile launches off the coast of Yemen, the USS Mason, a guided missile destroyer, fired two missiles in defense.
The USS Mason fired missiles defending itself and the USS Ponce, an amphibious dock ship, after it detected inbound cruise missiles presumably fired from Houthi militants on shore in Yemen.
This follows an October 1 incident where a former US Navy ship, the United Arab Emirates' HSV Swift, sustained severe damages from a guided missile fired from Yemen. In the case of the HSV Swift, the Houthis claimed responsibility.
The Mason launched two Standard Missile-2s (SM-2s) and a Enhanced Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM) to intercept the two inbound missiles, also deploying a Nulka-class anti-ship decoy, at around 7 pm local time, sources told USNI News.
While the Mason did fire defensive missiles and the incoming missiles didn't hit their target, it's not clear if the SM-2s did their job, or if the incoming missile, likely a 1990s vintage Chinese-made cruise missile supplied to Houthi militants by Iran, simply sputtered out and hit the water of its own accord.
Instead, the Pentagon only said that "defensive countermeasures" had been taken.

2016 PREDICTIONS: END OF THE WORLD THEORIES COMBINE NOSTRADAMUS PROPHECIES, BIBLE’S JESUS/ANTICHRIST END TIMES, AND WORLD WAR 3
The predictions for 2016 are already starting to come in hot now that the New Year’s Day is almost upon us. So far, the 2016 predictions are looking fairly interesting. While World War 3 fears have become common due to saber rattling by China and Vladimir Putin’s Russia, some people are combining the 2016 Nostradamus predictions with Bible prophecies related to Jesus and the Antichrist’s end times. Throw a giant asteroid into the WW III mix, and these 2016 conspiracy theories are certain to be a blast.
In a related report by the Inquisitr, the U.S. military is preparing their WMD bioweapon defense teams for a potential end of the world threat, but their efforts eerily resemble the fiction related to a zombie apocalypse virus.
The last two years have not been good to end of the world predictions. There were multiple 2015 asteroid impacts that proved to be untrue, some tried to claim the Mayan calendar actually ended in May of 2015, and the Norse myth of Ragnarok came to pass. Instead of being doom and gloom, like the myths portrayed, the end of the world date for Ragnarok was so much real world fun that Thor may want to do it again.
